This work analyses the topic of the Devil as a European concept introduced into the Chaco indigenous world through the evangelizing mission of the Jesus Company. During its task on the Tucumán frontiers, the Company waged an anti-satanic struggle in different fronts that went beyond the strict missionary framework. Not only the cultural manifestations of the Chaco hunting warriors were considered Satan’s work, but also all what interfered in the progress of the Evangelization and the success of the reductional system. In this context the Jesuits seemed to claim that they had an important role as a preacher order, fighting against the Devil for God’s glory and their own salvation

En este trabajo se analiza el tema del demonio como un concepto europeo introducido en el mundo indígena chaqueño a través de la acción evangelizadora de la Compañía de Jesús. A lo largo de su cometido en las fronteras del Tucumán la Compañía de Jesús desplegó una lucha antisatánica en diversos frentes, que trascendían el marco puramente misionero; no sólo las manifestaciones culturales propias de los guerreros cazadores del Chaco eran consideradas obra de Satán sino todo aquello que se interponía en el progreso de la evangelización y en el éxito del sistema reduccional. En este contexto los jesuitas parecían reivindicar su papel de orden predicadora por excelencia, combatiendo al demonio para la mayor gloria de Dios y su propia salvación
